Our History

Acher ensua Senior High School has a rich tradition of academic excellence, shaping young minds and building future leaders since its establishment.

Our Story

ACHERENSUA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL (ACHISCO) is located at Acherensua in the Ahafo Region. It was founded by the Kwame Nkrumah-led CPP government in 1960 under the Ghana Education Trust. The then traditional Chief of the town, Nana Kwadwo Fordjour, gave his whole Cocoa Farm for free to enable the school to be established on it.

ACHISCO was opened for the first time on September 22, 1961 as an all-boys boarding school, with an enrolment of 70 students, offering Science and Business, with Mr. J. Ade Sawyer as the first Headmaster.

In 1969, the first batch of girls were admitted, making it a mixed school.

The Sixth Form was introduced in the school in 1976 and remained so till 1990 when both the Ordinary and Advanced Level Systems were phased out following the implementation of the 1987 Educational Reform.

The current students population for SHS 3, 2 and 1 is 2,819 learners, 1,386 males and 1,433 females.

The current Staff Population is 182.

The current Headmaster of the School is Mr. John Yeboah (the eleventh so far).

The boys have three dormitories: Fordjour, Amankwaah and Sawyer and two dormitories for the girls: Kan-Dapaah and Tano.

The school always appreciates the immense contribution from the Alumni - AKUNINI (THE WARRIORS).

School Founded

ACHERENSUA Senior High School (ACHISCO) was founded by the Kwame Nkrumah-led CPP government under the Ghana Education Trust. Chief Nana Kwadwo Fordjour donated his Cocoa Farm for the school to be established.

1961

School Opened

ACHISCO opened on September 22, 1961 as an all-boys boarding school with 70 students offering Science and Business. Mr. J. Ade Sawyer was the first Headmaster.

1969

Became Mixed School

The first batch of girls were admitted, making ACHERENSUA Senior High School a mixed school.

1976

Sixth Form Introduced

The Sixth Form was introduced in the school and remained until 1990 when both Ordinary and Advanced Level Systems were phased out following the 1987 Educational Reform.

Led the CPP government that established ACHERENSUA Senior High School in 1960 under the Ghana Education Trust.
